POKA YOKE (Error proofing)
TRAINING
1 DAY | 7 HOURS TRAINING PROGRAMME
ONLINE OR FACE-TO-FACE TRAINING
Poka Yoke, a Japanese term meaning “mistake-proofing” or “error-proofing,” is a lean manufacturing technique developed by Shigeo Shingo to prevent and eliminate errors in a process. The primary objective of Poka Yoke is to design processes and systems in such a way that it becomes nearly impossible for mistakes to occur, thereby improving quality and reducing waste.
Core Concepts of Poka Yoke:
1. Prevention: Implementing measures to prevent errors from occurring.
2. Detection: Quickly identifying errors if they do occur to prevent them from causing defects.
3. Correction: Implementing solutions to correct errors before they result in defects.
Benefits of Poka Yoke:
• Improved Quality: By preventing errors, Poka Yoke ensures high-quality outputs.
• Reduced Waste: Minimizing errors leads to less rework and scrap, reducing overall waste.
• Increased Efficiency: Processes become more efficient as errors are reduced.
• Enhanced Safety: Error-proofing measures can improve workplace safety by preventing mistakes that could lead to accidents.
• Cost Savings: Reducing defects and waste leads to significant cost savings over time.
Types of Poka Yoke:
1. Contact Methods: Using physical attributes such as shapes, sizes, or colors to prevent errors.
2. Fixed Value Methods: Ensuring the correct number of movements or actions are performed.
3. Motion Step Methods: Monitoring the sequence of operations to ensure they are completed correctly.
